When you post a reel, video, or photo from a new page:
1. Meta runs a small test group. It shows your content to a tiny audience of users who have shown interest in similar topics, hashtags, or sounds — even if they don’t follow you.
2. If engagement is positive, i.e.:
* people watch your reel for more than 3 seconds,
* like, comment, or save,
* watch till the end or rewatch,
* or visit your profile after viewing — then Meta’s system expands reach to more similar users.
3. If engagement is weak, the post stops circulating beyond the test pool.
When Zero-Follower Accounts Get Suggested Quickly
Meta will suggest your content even from day one if:
1. The video uses a trending sound or topic. Reels built on popular audio or themes get immediate algorithmic testing.
2. Hashtags and captions clearly define the niche.
For example, “#streetphotography #kolkata #artreels” helps Meta know who to show it to.
3. You post in high quality and vertical format. Low-resolution or poorly cropped videos get down-ranked early.
4. The first viewers engage. If even a few random viewers like, comment, or rewatch, your content escapes the “cold start” barrier.
5. You interact quickly. Replying to comments or pinning the best ones tells Meta that the content has active engagement.
When Meta Won’t Suggest Zero-Follower Content
It won’t reach beyond a few test views if:* The video is blurry, reused, or watermarked (like reposted from TikTok).
* There’s low retention (people scroll past in under 2 seconds).
* The topic is unclear or mismatched with hashtags.
* The account looks spammy or inactive.
* There are any policy violations (music copyright, sensitive content, misinformation, etc.).
